Defensive Driving School in huge demand
Did you know that car crashes are the major cause of death for US teens? In 2008, 3500 teens in the United States were killed in motor vehicle wrecks. You might think this is an incredibly high number and you’re right because drivers in the 15-24 age group account for only 14% of the population yet they account for 30% of the total costs for injuries related to motor vehicle accidents.
The statistics for teen drivers aged 16-19 is even more staggering. In that age group they represent the highest risk group. For every mile driven, they are four times as likely to be involved in a crash than older drivers. We need a good defensive driving school, now more than ever,
As a parent what do you do besides white knuckle the armrest? What else can you do except get on your knees in prayer every time your teen leaves the house behind the wheel? Face it, you have few options. Yes, if you’re the praying type, I highly suggest asking for divine intervention. But the reality is that letting your kid grow up can be a tragic series of events and the privilege to drive is among the steps toward emancipation.
The only real intervention you can preform is helping them to be prepared. Please don’t write to me and tell me about the Drivers Ed classes your student took. I don’t want to hear it because I’ve seen the shoddy preparation kids get. It sucks and to think we let them out into the world with so little effort on our part is shameful. Kids get better training learning to hit a fastball then they do preparing to drive.
I am the first to shoulder blame and I too searched for a good defensive driving school. My own daughter has been in 5 accidents since she started driving. 5 accidents in 5 years. Yes, I personally taught her to drive. We navigated the highways, got too close behind Big Rigs, dodged a lawn chair in the slow lane. Still, it wasn’t enough.
I am only grateful that she is alive and she is because my wife and I have spent a considerable amount of time and money with extended and more comprehensive drivers training. We just didn’t stop and you should consider taking this attitude.
